New found identity. :) Y
CNY this year wasn't too bad. Yet I'm still wishing it would be during the long break.. like, thursday, friday, sat, sun. :D That'll be awesome. Or or, why not have the whole week off?! Wahhahaa! :D
Recently I've been reading this book a friend lent me. :) And it's sooo encouraging, I soo have to share some of it. :D Well, it's too much to share all, so I'll just share some okie. You can ask me for the book! :D
Do you realise that most of the times, we determine our identity by what others tell us about ourselves? You are so smart. You are a loser. You are fat! And true enough, these messages determine how we see ourselves, be it true of false. It doesn't have to be that way... Nope.
If you wanna noe your true identity, you need only look in the mirror of God's Word to discover it. It may be different from what you've heard others say about you, but which do you think is more accurate? Who do you think has a better perception of who you are, your Creator or other creatures just like yourself?
(Then it gives some verses about our new identity... Which I'll quote a few :D)
John 15:16 I am chosen and appointed by Christ to bear His fruit.
Galatians 4:6-7 I am an heir of God since I am a son of God.
Ephesians 1:1 I am a saint.
Philippians 3:20 I am a citizen of heaven
Okie okie, and I love this especially
Colossians 3:12 I am chosen of God, holy, and dearly loved. :)
And that's like 1/100 I have quoted! :D
The reason why so many Christians are not enjoying the maturity and freedom which is their inheritance in Christ is because they hold wrong self-perceptions. They don't see themselves as they reallie are in Christ! They don't see themselves the way God sees them, and to that degree they suffer from a poor self-image.
Perhaps you may say, "I feel like a hypocrite saying those verses about myself when I don't reallie feel like it." Actually, when you do not act like a child of God, you are being a hypocrite, because that's who you reallie are. If you are in a covenant relationship with God and are not acting like His child, you are living a lie.
God said it. It's true. I believe it. :)
It's true whether you believe it or not.
Will you be controlled by emotions and feelings or be controlled by what you noe is the truth?
Emotions/feelings are like the tail on a dog. If a dog jumps over the fence, the tail will follow. Similarly, if you start walking in the truth, your emotions will follow-eventually. Faith is acting like God tells the truth. It is one thing to say we believe God tells the truth, but it is quite another to act like it. :)
"But I don't act like a saint", you might say. Sometimes I may not act like a saint, but that's my new identity. It is not based on performance but position; not how I act, but who I am. When I was young, I acted more like a boy than a girl. I climbed thres, shunned dolls, threw rocks, and balked at having to wear a shirt. But I can assure you, that didn't make me a boy-I was a girl.
there is nothing I can do to change my position as God's spiritual daughter. My behaviour may change the closeness of the relationship with both, but my position as my earthly father's child and my heavenly Father's child stands unchanged.
(Now for some exercise! :D)
Clasp your hands together and notice which thumb is on top. Open your hands and clasp them together again with the opposite thumb on top. Does that new position feel uncomfortable? Likewise, accepting your new identity in Christ may feel uncomfortable at first, but by spending time with the One who changed you, you'll begin to see yourself as God sees you: absolutely beautiful!
Yup yup yuppers! Don't live with the deception of the world no more. Find your own true identity. The truth shall set you free! :)
